Nigel Angold is a senior consultant specializing in the development and operation of satellites and space physics instruments.
An early career building and launching upper atmosphere sounding rockets with the Science and Engineering Research Council in the UK led to assembly, integration and test of the AMPTE-UKS satellite followed by the launch campaign in Florida and post-launch operations.
After a period at the European Space Agency's Operations Centre (ESOC) in Germany, Nigel worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for ESA. Here, he was Spacecraft Operations Manager of the highly successful ESA/NASA Ulysses mission from launch on the Space Shuttle Discovery to fly-by of Jupiter and its subsequent voyage over the poles of the Sun. For the final five years of the 19 year mission, he was Mission Operations Manager responsible for overall ground and spacecraft operations.
Nigel is currently Mission Operations Manager of the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) and Systems Engineer and Operations Lead for the Integrated Science Investigation of the Sun (ISʘIS) instrument suite on the Parker Solar Probe mission. In addition, he is Systems Engineer for the Solar Wind and Pickup Ion (SWAPI) instrument on NASA’s Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) mission.
