Nina Arcot worked in the Space Physics Lab during the 2021-2022 school year while completing a master's degree in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. She previously earned a bachelor's degree from the same department in 2020, along with a certificate in Materials Science. Her undergraduate senior thesis explored additive manufacturing for lightweight metal alloys used in aerospace, and she was excited to collaborate with Grace Gong on the foil floating project, which was a great way to combine her interests in materials science and spacecraft engineering. In addition to creating a foil floating station and procedure for the lab, Nina and Grace characterized foil samples and helped set the stage for further analysis that will improve the foil floating process. Their project was supervised by Professor David McComas and Dr. Jamie Rankin, along with support from John Teifert. After graduation, Nina will return to her role as a Flight Assurance Engineer at Northrop Grumman Space Systems, where she works on small satellite programs to mitigate risks throughout the program lifecycle.
